Guns, Germs, and Steel Part 2 (Sago)

Today in class, we continued to take notes on guns, germs, and steel. Below are the notes from today's video.

  • Advanced technology, large populations, and a well-organized work force are things that all great civilizations have in common.
  • Prehistory- before events were written down (13,000 years ago- hunters/gatherers.
  • Hunters/gatherers live in the New Guinea (not many).
  • You have to be pretty smart to be a hunter.
  • Wild sago is what the natives ate when there was no luck hunting; the women chopped down trees into food.
  • Sago is not very nutritious nor healthy.
  • Sago can't be stored (won't last very long).
  • Draa is one of the oldest places in the world.
  • They found a small village in Draa that's very ancient and old.
  • There were about 40-50 people which is a very large population at the time.
  • 11,500 years ago, was when the village was there.
  • Granary is where you would store the grain.
  • Wheat and barley are healthier than sago and more nutritious.
  • Plant domestication roughly equals farming.
